علـى فالِـجٍ ثَقـالٍ وَعَيرِ

I gained what fate allowed me from Palestine
Heavy burdens and camels.

إن عهدي بهم غداة استقلوا
من فلسطين والدموع غزارُ

I remember them on the day they departed
From Palestine, with tears flowing.

فكأني من ذكرهم خالطتني
من فلسطين خمر جلسٍ عقارُ

As if, remembering them,
I was filled with a vintage wine from Palestine.

صَرِيعُ فِلَسْطِينِيَّةٍ رَاعَـهُ بِهـا
مِـنَ الْغَوْرِ عَنْ طُولِ الْفِراقِ خَلِيلِ

Struck down by a Palestinian wine
Whose beloved haunts him from the valley of parting.

شربتُ ولاقاني لحل أليتي
قطارٌ تروّى من فلسطين مثقلُ

I drank, and to fulfill my oath,
I met a caravan heavy-laden from Palestine.

سما بالمهاري من فلسطين بعدما
دنا الفيء من شمس النهار فولّت

He rose with camels from Palestine
After the shadow of the sun of the day had turned.

حمرِ الوجوهِ كأنا من تحشّمِنا
حسناءُ شمطاءُ وافت من فلسطينِ

Fair-faced elders of our group
Welcomed an aged beauty from Palestine.

كَــأَنَّ فاهـا لِمَـن تُؤَنِّسـُهُ
كــأسٌ فِلســطيَّةٌ مُعَتَّقَــةٌ

Her lips were like a Palestinian cup of vintage wine
Perfectly mixed with water from heavenly clouds.
